Achieving as wide a distribution as possible in the trageted cities, coupled with attractive, hard hitting Point of Purchase material such as shelf talkers and shop window posters could be a very useful combination.

Very illuminating topic. My two bits:

If, as stated earlier on by the topic starter, the product is targeted at the urban markets, creating a web site about the product, and also scheduling a bit of advertising on the major web mail sites would be very productive.

Urban audiences are bound to have very many computer literate people among them, and there will are bound to be hits on the product site if the banner constent is properly thought out and presented.

With a little bit of careful planning, online sales may also be possible.

Online advertising would deliver qualified, captive audiences, which would contribute greatly to a better ROI

Launching a new product by a new enterprise is always a huge challenge. If launch budgets are not sufficient, it becomes even more challenging for the agency.

Almost all agencies are confronted with this conundrum at one time or another.  The core issue is that clients usually treat advertising as an expense, as a cost of sales. In principle advertising should be treated as a component of the cost of production, and factored in right at the outset when a new product is being contemplated.

The ideal situation is that the sitting agency (or an agency for that matter) should be associated with the new product development right from the concept stage.

Whenever the agency is associated with new product development ab initio, the chances of success improve substantially.

This is a challenge almost every ad agency has to face. Responses depend on the product profile, the consumers and the media mix available.  It is interesting that that so many contributors have come with with very practical suggestions. I have given the topic a thorough read. I must admit it has been educative for me.

Agreed. It is, indeed, a very instructive topic and does provide avenues of thoughts and possible practical strategies when confronted with such a situation.

New product launches always require a high order of marketing skills. Budget constraints make the launch all that more challenging. In the equation given, broadcast media would necessarily be the main communication vehicle.

What do you say mate? Isn't this topic more with it than many long-winded and boring texts about new product launches?

Greetings All:

We are attempting to reclaim  topics and posts that still remain in the earlier Forums, which will be deactivated when this exercise is complete.

This is a topic reclaimed from the old Forums.

Reclaimed Topics will appear on these IM Forums with the label (RECLAIMED) The reclaimed content in all   (RECLAIMED) topics will appear as quotes.
Earlier we had said that we will not be attempting to reclaim the topics in the Greetings Forum in the old Forums. Members have been asking to reclaim at least the current ones. We will our best to bring some of those here.

As conveyed by Ideamines earlier many topics have been lost outright. Obviously, there is no chance of reclaiming them.

We offer our sincere regrets for all inconvenience caused by this glitch at the old Forums.

Keep logging on, keep enriching these new Forums with your thoughts and expertise.

This topic had 56 posts and 113925 reads in the old Forums. This has so far been the most read topic at our Forums, and it certainly is a very educative one.

That is likely to be very tedious and time consuming. You all are doing a marvellous job out there. I feel you shouldn't be over-burdened.

I am always fascinated by this topic.

The equation  is a testing one. Almost every decent agency (and many half-decent ones too) encounters it at one time or another.

To be honest, launching a new product with an in sufficient budget is like sending a batter in without a proper bat.

Exactly how much say do agencies have in fixing a budget for a campaign?
