This transported me back to my youth. It has been years since I heard this. Surender Kaur and her sister Parkash Kaur  were a very popular duo in my younger days. So was Shamshaad Begum.

Music isn't what it used to be in our youth.

Nothing is like it used to be.

Such a plaintive melody and beautiful rendition by the singer.

I am not a Punjaban. I was introduced to this song by my husband, who is Punjabi, and it immediately bit me. It is one of my all time favorites. Thanks for uploading it here. I used to hear it on my audio deck. I have now downloaded and saved to my comuter and laptop. Just a couple of clicks now and I can hear it any time, anywhere.

181 seconds of encapsulated
Punjabi culture

This is an audio file only.

These are the lyrics of this song:

MadhaaniyaaN.
Haai o mereya DaaDeya rabba,
Kina jammiyaaN kinaane le jaaniyaaN.

Chole.
Babul tere mehalaaN vichoN,
Sat raNgiya kabootar bole.
Paave.

Babal tere mahilaaN vichoN,
THanDi va vagdi payi aave.

Pheeta.
Ena sageyaaN veeraaN ne,
Dola Tor ke ahga nu keeta.

Pheeta,
Ena sagiyaaN bhaabiyaaN ne,
Dola Tor ke kacha dud peeta.

KaliyaaN.
MaavaaN dheeyaaN milan lagiyaaN,
Chaare kanda ne chabaare diyaaN halliyaaN.

There are some mistakes in the lyrics

Pheeta,
Ena sagiyaaN bhaabiyaaN ne,
Dola Tor ke kacha dud peeta.

Pheeta.
Meray apnay veeraaN ne,
Dola Tor ke ahga nu keeta.

Now you all look at this one. He has minutely read the preamble to the song, picked up the inconsistency and calmly posted it here.

I cannot say anything about the lyrics, but the music is very sweet.

Listen to this, and compare with the orchestrated noise that is palmed of as music these days.

The pangs of parting   for a bride are so bitter-sweet.

The rendition is so soulful, and captures the quintessential ethos of a Punjabi bride.

Soulful is certainly the word to describe the way this song has been sung.

This is a very plaintive song, and the rendition is very moving.
